The Vaunted Food Inventory - and - Ginger Root Tea

Well here it is, the long awaited, highly anticipated, extremely overrated inventory of food aboard Arden. Now, if I was an organized person, which I am not, the list would be categorized, organised, broken into groups and sub-groups....but for that I would need a secretary, or first mate, of which I have neither. Spook was useless during this operation, sleeping through the entire affair, so I am beginning to wonder of what use she is other than raw companionship, and body warmth at night. (I am only kidding, but I do wish she could type)

I discovered during the listing of my larder that I have more food aboard the boat than I think I ever had in a land based house. With the exception of refridgerated foods, I do believe I am far and away better stocked than I ever was at home. However, this does suggest a small problem, or issue, that I had not thought of before...how much does all this food weigh? I have no idea, although I suppose I could figure that out, but I imagine my waterline is 2 inches or so lower because of my stores.

I did find that although I do have alot, I am short a few very important items, such as yeast, sugar, (I definately need more than 10 lbs in 4 months) and peanut butter. (peanut butter is, it seems, a staple for cruising sailors) I am also terribly low on adult beverages, but well stockled on Koolaid. (I use the Walmart version of Crystal Lite, 6 little tubs in a tube, each tub makes 2 qts of drink...I think I have about 120 qts of drink mix on hand. after my time in Iraq, I am extremely over just plain water) I did also find that even though I rely heavily on canned goods, I am very short of canned fruit and fruit juice. Now the game plan will be to get fresh fruits and veggies as I can from the local market, I do think I need more on board. So here it is, read, enjoy, take a nap (it is long) and let me know if there are any suggestions, there are times I do get a bit of tunnel vision. (there we go back to that 25lbs of rice.)

Ginger Root Tea

A friend of mine gave me this recipe, she swears it is good for you, helps with cold and flu symptoms, is soothing no matter what the occaision. I know it sounds like an old voodoo concoction, but, without the bats wings and toad eyelids, it is very good.

1 inch piece of Ginger root
half clove of garlic - diced
1/2 lemon - juiced
teaspoon of honey
dash of cayenne pepper

Boil Ginger root for 2 or 3 min, pour water and root into cup. Add garlic, juice from lemon, honey, and sprinkle pepper on top. Believe it or not, this works. The cayenne and garlic are great for the sinuses, the honey and lemon soothes your throat, and the ginger gives you a good overall feeling.

Considering that I will be sailing through some very cool waters, this recipe will come in very handy, and I do intend to stock up on the ingredients before I go.
